Dummy Aesthetics
Key Programmes / Activities
Our Aesthetics Department is committed to nurturing joyful lifelong learners, glocal citizens and innovative leaders through meaningful and reflective Arts experiences.
Our Art and Music programmes provide rich opportunities for creative and innovative self-expression, while equipping students with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to foster a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of the Arts. Through these learning experiences, students develop emerging 21st‑century competencies (E21CC) such as critical thinking, collaboration, and effective communication. Purposeful integration of educational technology (Edtech) further enhances engagement, deepens artistic inquiry and enriches students’ creative learning journeys.
Art Programme
Our Art Programme provides students with rich and age‑appropriate opportunities to explore, experiment and create using a variety of media and tools. Students are exposed to diverse art forms, including two‑dimensional, three‑dimensional, traditional and digital artworks, to develop their visual literacy and creative confidence.
At Primary 1 and 2, students are introduced to a variety of materials and mediums to spark curiosity, encourage exploration and nurture a love for Art. As they progress to Primary 3, students deepen their understanding of different art styles and techniques, enabling them to express ideas, experiences and emotions more purposefully through visual forms.
At Primary 4, students have the opportunity to visit a local Art gallery as part of the Museum-based Learning (MBL) module. These authentic learning experiences foster museum etiquette, deepen aesthetic appreciation, and help students value the works of local artists within the cultural context of Singapore.
At Primary 5 and 6, students further extend their learning by exploring new media through the purposeful use of digital technologies. These experiences empower them to innovate, experiment with contemporary forms of expression, and apply artistic skills in creative, reflective and meaningful ways.
Beyond artistic skills and practices, our Art Programme encompasses rich cultural learning experiences. In support of our school’s mission to nurture bilingual and multicultural students with a global outlook, our programme is thoughtfully designed to develop students’ understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures within both local and global contexts.
Our SAP Art Programme is one such example, providing purposeful opportunities for students to deepen their knowledge of and appreciation for Chinese culture through meaningful engagement with cultural art forms and practices. Through these rich and varied learning experiences, students learn to enjoy and appreciate the Arts, communicate ideas visually, and make meaning by connecting art to society, heritage and culture.
Our Aesthetics department also celebrates the creativity, voice and growth of our students through our Primary 1 to Primary 6 Art Cohort Exhibitions and the Young Artists in RSS Art competition. Held across the school, these exhibitions feature a thoughtfully curated selection of artworks created throughout the year, providing students with an authentic platform to express their ideas, perspectives and responses to the world through visual forms.
From the imaginative and exploratory works of our Primary 1 students to the increasingly thoughtful, reflective and refined creations of our Primary 6 artists, the exhibitions offer meaningful insights into students’ artistic journeys at every stage of development. These showcases highlight how students apply critical and inventive thinking, communicate ideas visually, and demonstrate perseverance and collaboration—emerging 21st‑century competencies nurtured through the Art curriculum.
Beyond celebrating individual effort and talent, the exhibitions affirm our school values by encouraging students to take pride in their learning, respect diverse viewpoints, and appreciate one another’s creative contributions. By giving students a visible and valued voice, these exhibitions inspire the wider school community and empower every learner to see themselves as confident creators and artists in their own right.

Music Programme
Our Music Programme is thoughtfully designed to engage students in enjoyable, meaningful and purposeful musical learning experiences. In support of the school’s goal of nurturing bilingual and multicultural students with a global outlook, the programme provides students with rich opportunities to develop an appreciation of the Chinese language and culture, as well as an understanding of cultural diversity within both local and global contexts.
Through a range of structured and experiential learning programmes—such as the Primary 1 Chinese Drum Music Programme, Primary 2 Chinese Orchestra Music Programme, Primary 1 to Primary 6 Xinyao exposure lessons, as well as performances during International Friendship Day Music and RSS Celebrates! cohort showcases—students are exposed to diverse musical traditions and genres. These authentic learning experiences enable students to express themselves musically, develop cultural awareness, and build confidence while learning to appreciate music as a shared form of communication across cultures.
Our Music Programme further deepens students’ learning through the purposeful progression of musical knowledge and skills across the levels. From Primary 3 to Primary 6, students develop fundamental instrumental skills through structured programmes such as the Recorder and Ukulele Programmes, building a strong foundation in musicianship, ensemble playing and musical literacy.
In addition, students are provided with authentic opportunities to develop creativity, self‑expression and confidence through music composition and performance. Programmes such as the Primary 4 GarageBand and Music Rap Programmes encourage students to experiment with sounds, rhythms and lyrics, enabling them to communicate ideas and emotions creatively through music.
Students are also encouraged to showcase their musical talents and celebrate their learning through platforms such as RSS Musical Buskers and RSS Got Talent, which provide meaningful avenues for performance, peer appreciation and student voice.
Through these rich and varied learning experiences, students learn to appreciate music from diverse cultures within local and global contexts, develop essential competencies in creative expression and communication, and cultivate confidence and joy in making music—motivating them towards a lifelong enjoyment and appreciation of Music.
